Why are universities in UAE not considered world class?

The United States of Emirates is considered as the hub of the global village which is accessible to the high use of the international market and the favorite spot of the vacation where thousands of the people come to Dubai to spend the Christmas holidays and the auspicious occasion of the New Years Eve. However, there is a particular sign of disagreement and hopelessness where the education sector is not reaching an optimum amount of satisfaction. There are various factors which are responsible for the failed education system of the universities in the United Arab Emirates.

Security threats

Over the past few years, the researchers and the scholars of the universities of UAE are facing the difficulties in researching the universities of UAE.  Similarly, there is a close connection between the UAE and the USA. In the modern era, there should be given the extra favors to validate the security of the scholars, advisors, and mentors to undergraduate students. The elected representatives of MESA is aimed to alert the members to the intensification of the threats to the prolific researchers and the resident colleagues of the universities in UAE. As a result, the embassy does not pay heed to comment on the security of the scholars and students respectively in the UAE.

Human rights activist

Another issue of university failure in UAE is the failure of human rights. According to the world report of 2017, the intolerance of the UAE continued up to the year 2016 where the prosecution of the journalist had exercised their power to demand their human rights. Moreover, the residents of UAE has also spoken about international human rights which are at higher risk of arbitrary detention and imprisonment. The law of the counter-terrorism indicates that there is a death penalty for people whose activities are found to undermine national security or social peace which neither of them is defined in the law. Therefore, the education system is at a lower risk where there is an imposition of the failure of human rights activism.

Censorship- Restrictions placed on the internet

According to the report of the Freedom House, the freedom of the internet declined in 2017 due to the passage of the new cybercrime law and the imprisonment of the users on the political speech on social media including the ten-year sentence for human rights defender such as Nasser Bin Ghaith. Moreover, the state blocks access to political, social or religious content such from pornography and gambling to political discussion and the LGBT community. The notion of self-censorship is pervasive on social media and states run sites have to refuse the controversial issues. Similarly, ordinary people are often arrested for innocuous activities such as uploading a photo of a poorly parked car or live streaming in a vehicle. Despite the risk of heavy penalties, a few internet users continue to highlight the human rights abuse and the advocate on behalf of the jailed activist on social media. It was also one of the reasons for the failure of the education system of universities in the UAE.

Low literacy rate

According to the UNICEF, the literacy rate was reported to have 94% as males and 97% as females which does not constitute a substantial obstacle to the use of the internet. However, the schools of the Emirates schools are among the top 25 in terms of internet connectivity which implies that there are over 200 quick learning lessons which are compared with 14 schools in 2012.

Limits to academic freedom

Lastly, there is very limited academic freedom in the UAE, which makes the entire process of receiving education much harder than usual and normal. For instance, students fear to take academic assistance from writing services in UAE because of the penalty is way too high in the country and they fear of getting caught which makes them prefer failing or getting poor grades instead of getting quality help.
